It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Micheal Roy Peet, aged 80, from Hinton, Alberta. Micheal departed on April 24, 2024, after a valiant struggle with asbestosis and COPD, surrounded by his loving daughters.
Micheal was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Clarence Peet, his eldest brother, Leonard Peet, and his youngest brother, Gordon Peet. He was also preceded by his first wife, Lorraine Peet, and his step-son, Darren Stefaniczan.
Micheal took his first breath, on March 19,1944. Micheal was a force to be reckoned with from the word go. After graduating for Micheal going to work wasn't something he did; It was just who he was. Micheal worked in the asbestos mines for a short while, then on to welding, then going onto work at Inland Cement, where his father also worked and retired from.
Micheal, being strong willed and smart young man that he was, decided to start his own custom carpentry business. Early on in his career, he built his first house for his soon to be wife and their four children. Darren, the eldest next to Carol then Dana, and the youngest, Nicole.
Micheal being a man from the Coal Branch, decided it was time to get back to his roots, close to were he was born, Cadomin, Alberta. Settling down in Hinton; where he and his father built the families second house. Micheal loved and felt very much at home here. This countryside would become well known to Micheal. He would hunt every season and fish in the sun and snow. Anyone that knew Micheal was sure to be treated to an evening of show and tell. He had a bear rug and a mounted head of a lynx proudly on display. Hunting and fishing weren't only a passion he had, it was also a means of providing for his family. Needless to say, they never went hungry.
After a short while of life in Hinton, Micheal's family continued to grow. He soon became a granddad to Dana's son, Dillon; and again to Nicole's daughter; Maggie. As life goes, after building many many custom log homes and cabinetry for the folks all around the area, Hinton would be where he retired and finally got to have some time to enjoy and build many long lasting friendships. This also gave him time to meet and foster his new relationship with his second fiancé, Doreen Holman. After a short while, Micheal and Doreen would call Hinton their "other" home. Becoming seasonal snowbirds, they travelled off to Yuma, Arizona every fall and return in the spring. Until Doreen had passed away. Not wanting to travel so far alone, Micheal finally settled back in, and lived out his last few years in Hinton. Having his daughters, Dana and Nicole at his home caring for him and making sure his final wishes of passing at home surrounded by loved ones, were fulfilled.
